1255pm:
Plane touch down on Perth airport…well. Something about my first flight experience, I actually felt a little uncomfortable when the plane was landing, my ears were blocked and everything…e uncertainty on what’s happening next, ya...so I just decided to keep both my eyes and ears open and follow whatever the people beside me were doing. Hmm…the food on the plane were not very nice I guess although we’re flying in Qantas. and I think the other polo guys who had a few past flight experiences were kind of disappointed as the cabin crew on the plane were all males.haha…
First impression on Perth’s airport is that its pretty rundown compared to Singapore’s airport. And e stores and cafeterias in it were all closed for the day.
After everyone was out of the customs, there was a bus which drove us to Trinity College’s hostel… the place where we would be staying for the games.
Well. It took us approximately less than half and hour bus ride which I expected to be longer. When we stepped out of the bus…e cold chills of the night of Perth greeted us and boy was it chilling. I hurriedly zipped up my jacket then. The team also took quite a few photos outside trinity’s college before we head in to be brief by the IRAUG (Indian rim Asian university games) person-in-charge. We were handed a letter folder which contains all the documents and most importantly, the keys to our room. Still remember that the key was bigger than those we use normally in Singapore. We then move our luggage into the room and were told to rest early so that we can wake up early in the morning to tour around the campus and the neighborhood. I was having the lonesome feeling then and ya...i can’t wait to get home…
The next morning, we were brought around the campus by our teacher-in-charge, Gerald, who happens to be a student of Trinity College in the past. Something bizarre about Perth…they got PESTERING flies everywhere…swarming around people’s head and not to mention, their face!
There’s the opening ceremony in the evening but I was sleeping throughout…was feeling super sleepy then,zzZZzz
Played 2 matches and we lost both of them. However, one thing I must say. We made great friends with the WITs from south Africa (University of the Witwatersrand) .and for the other match was with the combined team from Singapore comprising of NUS and SMU players.well...they played rough with us and ya..dirty too. Poor Darren injured his arm during our very first match with Wits. The whole incident was rather funny though. Not to forget. the pool water there’s was freezing cold although it was inside the challenge stadium.
There’s this bus ride coordinator named Jade which the polo guys were smitten over and we had a lot of fun teasing the guys who finds her attractive.
At that time, I also had abit of cough which doesn’t show any sign of recovering. it also contributed to my partial loss of voice
There’s this international drinking competition on social night. The event was pretty dull at first but fortunately the Wits players began to
push up the atmosphere there with their carefree and fun personality’s .Had a lot of fun chatting with them, they were so friendly and the team even learnt the “buffalo rule” and the “macadamia nut”
I was also actually asking around the whole day about the benefits of an international calling card which at the end it, I decided to buy one for myself. We also went to support the soccer boys today and had lots of fun playing blackjack in our hostel room.
I called dear at night and learnt that she’s quite stressed with her project, heard she also broke down…at that point of time, I really wish that I could be back in Singapore…I want to help her in whatever way I can, I just want to be by her side…
Actually, I kind of like the life in Aussie...slow-paced..Nice chilly weather and not to mention the friendly people here. How I wish dear could be here with me…
Oh ya…ONE MORE THING…their night sky…there were countless stars which look like sparkling gems lighting up e dull night sky, I was so dazzled by it.

We played with Murdoch University and lost 14-2.
After the match, I went to borrow the horn and e wig from the Wits team and our polo guys had a lot of fun taking photos with it. We also used it to support the Wits team during the second match of the day when they’re playing against NUS/SMU .
We went to social night again. But this time its was held at a pub in Fremantle. Well, this is the first time I sort of dress up for a clubbing experience. There’s this karaoke session organized by the DJ and there sure were some wacky contestants and one really bizarre one which was an old guy who happens to be Singapore polytechnic teacher-in-charge . Randall lost his room keys that night but it happened to be a false alarm. We spent around 30 AUS dollars on the cab fare when we went back to the pub to search for his keys. Randall almost choked on the amount displayed.

We played with UWA (University of Western Australia) in the morning today. Randall did a fantastic job goal
keeping. After our match, we walked to the soccer match venue and cheered our soccer boys on their match against the CHINA team.
We went to china town in the afternoon. After a few stores of window shopping, I concluded that Australian’s stuff were expensive. We also entered a few authentic quicksilver stores, nothing much to buy…
I realized I’ve been spending a lot for the past few days, I got to save money! I miss my dear….

Realized time in Australia starts to pass very quickly. Pretty much love the place here. The air is cold and everything. That equals to no breakouts! Haha…but still..i mustn’t be too lazy to take care of my face. Loved the food they served in the cafeteria too. Healthy food consists of lots of carbo and protein. Most fortunately, there’s rice..YEAH…
Haven’t been reading my tutorials and im feeling abit reluctant to go back to Singapore already. People here were so friendly and the suburbs area I must say, is much much cleaner and sceneric than the city. We would be playing our semi-final match tomorrow with the WITS again…hope it’ll be fun. but of course…We want to win too! I gotta do my best and of course pray before the game.
Something I remembered, we asked the cafeteria helper who serves us food every morning .guess what, her pay’s $17 per hour!.thats a lot!
Regretted not bringing a camera, there’s so many scenic places I wanna capture to chare and show dear..and so many once-in-a-lifetime moments.
Looking at the brighter side, im just glad that I am given this chance to participate in the games as it gave me the exposure I could never have dreamt of.
Also, I was also glad to see the team playing hard and well together.
There were 3 things that have always been on my mind, which was “family…dear….polo…family…dear…polo…”

We had our semi-final match against Wits again. Heard from their team manager that they were pretty unhappy to play with us cause we got along so well as great friends for the past few days. The fact was they were much better than us in speed, skills and gameplay…so yups, they won us by a huge margin, but so what, I feel that greater friendship has been forged. While we were shaking hands after the match, we’ve already set the time and venue to chill out together after the day.
After the match, we went to town to buy some stuff.
At night, the other guys went to visit the Northbridge’s shop while I stayed at the hostel to chat with dear online:D. When they returned, Jason and guys all recommended it ..But however, they were not allowed into voodoo club as they were not properly dressed.

Woke up early in the morning to go to the nearby market with Bing long and guys to buy some chocolates. came back to have breakfast and after that which we went to support the hockey team. During that period, our teacher-in-charge, Daryl conveniently gave a sportsmanship talk. He was relating his past experience and I find it quite inspiring.
After the hockey match, the team headed down to challenge stadium to have our final match against SMU/NUS. Was feeling groggy and tired at that time as it was a 3pm game. Well..we lost the match but I must say we really did our best .
After our match was the Wits vs UWA game. Really expected Wits to win but somehow or rather, they dint manage to convert the opportunities into goals and they lost. Then there was the closing ceremony. We took a few group photos and I manage to get Mike from Wits to exchange a few t-shirts with me. After the ceremony, some of our teammates feel that’s not enough and even made their way St.Catherine’s college took look for the Wits guys to exchange further more. The rest tagged along as well, haha. The Wits and us had a little chit-chat, after that which we hurried back to our hostel to change up for the coming social night. We made our ways to Leaderville and I had a rather unexpected incident there.
I was actually queuing up outside the club waiting to enter when a bottle of 1.5L coke was passed around the team from the Wits, as I was thirsty, I took a few sips and the next thing I know, the bouncer of the club was right in front of me and he asked, “Is there alcohol in the drink?” after that which he snatched the bottle away from me and took a sniff at the bottle. He looked really angry and said, “you’re not supposed to consume alcohol outside a club”, “its illegal” and that he threw the bottle forcefully on the ground and it bounces away. Then he said “You’ll not be allowed into the club” I was like “what the!!” I didn’t know at all and I wasn’t the only one drinking from it. Aaron, underaged and I stood outside while the rest of the team entered the club. I wasn’t convinced so I decided since there’s so many people queuing up, I might as well sneak in as there were two bouncers at the door. Aaron watched the whole “sneaking in” episode from outside and told me afterwards that it was really a close shave as when I was getting my entry chop from the other bouncer, the bouncer who refused me entry was busy giving entry chops too and his sight direction was away, the moment I walked past him, he turned back as narrated by Aaron. Actually I saw him turning so I hurried my way past the door, lol. Thrilling but scary…it’ll be my last time doing that I tell you…
After i entered the club, the surroundings looked pretty dull.
The Wits group then asked us to go to a nearby club named the Hippies with them. We bought a beer each and proceeded to the beer garden. Kelvin and I chatted with Dave and Mike and they even taught us a few beer drinking games. One of them was called coinage which requires the drinker to bounce a coin into a cup. There were also rules that added thrill into the game like “no acceptance” and “no pointing”, the buffalo rule was also applied to the game. The buffalo rule is that you have to keep your pinkie finger up whenever you’re holding your beer mug or drinking it. The penalties of the rules were to down a mug of beer, haha… The Wits and us had a lot
of fun playing the game and and soon there’s also additional players from e hockey team from Murdoch university. But good time really passes like nobody’s business and soon we had to leave at around 11:10 when the place was starting to get real fun as we got a curfew at 11:30. But still, we were pretty reluctant to leave the Wits buddies, they were really nice and fun-loving people. On the way back to the hostel, we had some craziness on the bus.
I miss my dear..Its our 29th week together already!
04/12/05

The team went for a city tour, I also took a few photos, courtesy of Darren. We alighted at Fremantle to have fish and chips and boy does it taste great! The fish tasted really fresh and its fried to create a really crispy layer. The wind at Fremantle were really strong gusts of wind capable of sweeping people off their feet. We saw a seagull trying to fly against the wind and it end up looking like its hovering in the air. The sight was really hilarious.
After the whole city tour, we rushed to town to do some last minute shopping. The unfortunate thing about Perth is that they closes their shop damn early! We were searching for nougats at that time, and come to think of it, our search for it was somewhat like what’s happening in an amazing race as we were running up and down in town.
After that, we went back to the hostel to have our dinner..Remembered that it tasted horrible. After dinner, went back to the hostel and began the rape squad adventure. After which I played UNO with the guys, and then went to the resource centre to find dear online, but she’s not there already. It was around 2am in the morning I guess, haha
When I returned to the hostel, Aaron treated a selected few polo mates with the oh-so-delicious BBQ sauce pizza! Thanks Aaron! its definitely saucy and it tasted gReeEeat!! One of the best pizzas I’ve ever tasted! Bet dear will love it too!
Went back to the room and found out that I got a lot to pack..
Woke up early in the morning as the ngee ann team gathered outside the hostel with our luggage for the debrief. Took a few last photos before we head down to the airport. Took a few more when we’re at the airport and on the plane as well.haha..We’re just trying to capture as many moments on the last day. Will miss Perth ….but I miss dear even more!
When the plane touched down at the runway of Singapore, I turned on my handphone immediately and started messaging dear:D Previously in Perth, messaging was EXPENSIVE:p…
After I cleared the customs, my family and dear were already waiting for me outside…
the feeling to be home…to b able to hold dear in my arms again..just feel…INDESCRIBABLE! To my dear...
~ In Perth, I cant take my eyes off the exciting polo matches,
but in Singapore where i call home...i cant take my eyes of you~
i Love You!
